Dingle Road railway station is a railway station serving the town of Penarth in the Vale of Glamorgan in Wales. It is located on the Penarth branch of the Vale of Glamorgan Line 4 miles (6 km) south of Cardiff Central towards Penarth.
The Dingle Road halt is unusual in that it is located on a slope. The gradient approaching Dingle Road is very steep, causing more than a few of Arriva's Class 142 and Class 143 to fail, or struggle when crawling up the slope, particularly if the train is running on a single engine instead of the normal two.
The downside platform, just visible to the right in the photo, has been disused since the 1960s and the Beeching Axe when the downside rails were removed making the Penarth rail spur a single track service. The preceding station used to be Cogan but that was closed to passengers in 1968.
Passenger services from this station are operated by Arriva Trains Wales as part of the Valley Lines network.
The Dingle Road Halt was first opened by the Taff Vale Railway as an additional Penarth station in 1904[1].
Monday to Saturday daytimes there is a train every 15 minutes to Cardiff Central and beyond northbound and Penarth southbound. Evenings there is a half-hourly service and Sundays a two-hourly service in each direction.
